Master of Science in Packaging Engineering

The Masters of Science in Packaging Engineering is a thirty (30) credit graduate program designed to provide engineering students from all disciplinary with an interest in packaging engineering including packaging materials, packaging design and development, manufacturing, project management, sustainable and innovative packaging. Professionals working in packaging or a related field may enhance their education and on the job experience by earning this degree.

The interdisciplinary packaging program will be effective leverage using existing graduate education to provide individuals with diverse backgrounds with the tools to enter the field of packaging.  Many who are in the packaging industry have backgrounds in mechanical, materials science, industrial and/or chemical engineering. Based on the current understanding of packaging industry needs, this graduate degree will be useful for personnel who are in packaging departments; however do not have the proper education considering the subjects.

Professionals receiving their Masters in Packaging Engineering will be qualified to work in the packaging industry.  Packaging job opportunities are growing as the demand for packaging engineering background continues to rise. As a multi-billion dollar business, packaging is the world’s third largest industry on the basis of gross sales. With more people employed than any other business, the growing need for packaging backgrounds will soon far exceed the actual number of packaging educated. This makes our program very attractive to employers across the country as they seek to meet the rapidly growing need for packaging backgrounds. The steady growth in demand for packaging has ensured many of our students have jobs come their completion of the master’s degree. As long as products are being created, packaging engineering backgrounds will be in demand.

Requirements

A candidate is admitted on the basis of prior academic or professional performance. Please contact the program for additional information.

At minimum, requirements to be admitted for the Masters in Packaging Engineering degree:

  • A bachelor's degree with an engineering/science major from an accredited university
  • GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Personal Statement
  • Official transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • TOFEL (for international students)

** For Graduate/PhD Students with Financial Assistance 
Students who receive financial assistance (TA, Fellowship, and/or Research Assistantship) MUST have their Advisor sign an Advisor's Approval Form before they can be admitted into the Certificate.
