Professor Lin to Serve as Undergraduate Director of Rutgers’ Packaging Engineering Program

Hao Lin, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), has been appointed undergraduate director of the Packaging Engineering Program. After leading the program for more than 10 years, Professor Hae Chang Gea will continue serving as a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Lin’s appointment coincides with the program’s move to the MAE department, where it will be fully backed by the department’s faculty, resources, and research.

During his tenure as director, Gea established the program as one of the few packaging engineering programs housed in an engineering school and a recognized industry leader in preparing packaging engineering professionals. Among his many successes includes developing dynamic relationships with packaging industry partners who not only contribute their expertise and mentoring, but also state-of-the-art equipment that provides students with hands-on experiential learning.

“Thanks to Professor Gea’s enthusiasm, dedication, and vision Rutgers’ packaging engineering program is internationally recognized as a leader in the field with so many of our students going on to successful careers,” says School of Engineering Dean Thomas Farris. “Under Hao Lin’s capable guidance, the program will strengthen our unique position by expanding its faculty and curricular offerings.”

Lin, while trained in fluid mechanics, has devoted much of the past decade to biomedical research, including COVID vaccine delivery. “I have stepped into this role with great pleasure and excitement and look forward to contributing to the program’s ongoing success.”
