Despite the heavy snow storm following Hurricane Sandy, packaging company executives, Rutgers faculty, staff, professors and students alike defied the weather to attend the Annual Packaging Engineering Banquet, where they raised $150,000 to enhance the program.

Of the seven packaging engineering students attending the New Jersey Packaging Engineering Club Hall of Dinner last night, three of them were awarded prestigious packaging scholarships. Matthew Fong and Michelle Frondelli received the NJPEC Scholarship, while Erica Parriott, a sophomore studying civil engineering, received the Kathleen Brady-Zito Scholarship.

On April 17th, Rutgers University student, Diane Jones was awarded the annual Eugene M. Roberts Memorial Scholarship by the Cosmetics Industry Buyers and Suppliers Organization (CIBS) at the Manhattan Club in New York City. "The scholarship helps us to recruit the best students to the program. It motivates us to develop the program to be the best in the nation," said Dr. Hae Chang Gea, director of the packaging engineering program.

Rutgers students and faculty joined other packaging professionals at the NJPEC dinner on March 14, where innovations were showcased through company displays and a lecture on biomimcry or imitating nature to manufacture problem solving products, as a basis for fresh approaches in design. NJPEC is a coalition that brings industry leaders to work together on issues in the packaging world. The evening gave students an opportunity to see new aspects of packaging engineering.

Without a good internship, many students will not find the jobs they want. That is why students in our program have interned at major packaging companies such as Bayer Healthcare, L'Oreal and Estee Lauder.
Some of their duties included creating 3D modeling with SolidWorks, discussing marketing for companies' packages and testing packets for sustainability research.
